Brussels, capital of Belgium. Historically Dutch-speaking, as it was the capital of the Dutchy of Brabant and The Netherlands, Brussels saw a language shift to French from the late 19th century. Nowadays, the Brussels-Capital Region is officially bilingual in French and Dutch. French is the lingua franca with over 90% of the inhabitants being able to speak it. But besides that it is the capital of Flanders, the Dutch speaking state of Belgium, and not the capital of the French speaking state Wallonie. Very complicated right? #photography #history #brussels
